Who are "Special" Patients?
Special patients are generally classified as the aged, chronically ill, and the physically and mentally challenged. As part of rehabilitative medicine, dentistry for the Special Patient has the same goals of improving the physical, social, psychological, and vocational functioning of each individual patient to the maximum degree possible.
Dentistry, as performed by most dentists, is provided for healthy patients who are self-sufficient and voluntarily choose to seek dental services. Most dentists have little or no experience in rendering care to aged or medically challenged patients and tend not to treat them.
Coronado Dental Services attempts to reach the goals of dental health by modifying the usual dental practice to meet the unique needs of these patients
